Global Wine Flight Tasting & Small Plate Pairing Event
June 2006

White Wine Flight

Sauvignon Blanc, Kim Crawford, New Zealand
Selected from various low yielding vineyards in the Wairau, Brancott, Waihoepai and Awatere valleys, these Sauvignon Blanc grapes were machine harvested and protectively handled. After juice clarification the wine was inoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented. Once dry the wine was stabilized, filtered and bottled.

TASTING NOTES
Aroma: Classic Sauvignon characters of gooseberry, passion fruit, figs and a touch of herbaceousness.
Palate: Unfolds with flavors of passion fruit, gooseberry and subtle herbaceousness. The wine is mouthfilling with good texture and finishes well with crisp acidity and great length.

Riesling, Dr. Pauly Bergweiler, “Noble House” – Germany
The Noble House wine is a carefully selected, refreshing Riesling wine. It is the proud result of traditional and innovative wine marketing.

Harvested in the region of Bernkastel, Noble House Riesling has an agreeable ripe peach and apricot aroma, typical of the Middle Mosel slate terrain. Its finish is long and lingering.

Chardonnay, Duck Pond – Columbia Valley, WA
Full of zesty and fruity flavors, our 2003 Chardonnay reflects the warm sunny weather of the Columbia Valley. Rugged and desolate, the valleys of Eastern Washington provide consistent heat and sun to perfectly ripen the fruit. Good fruit is the first essential quality of good wine.

Barrel fermentation adds to the texture and body of the wine. A clean finish and bright acidity allow the wine to go with a variety of light to medium bodied foods: salad, seafood, chicken or pasta

 Red Wine Flight

Merlot, Domaine de Gournier - Provence, France
Wonderful aromas and flavors – red and black cherries….velvety soft!  Soft, ripe tannins, but not tannic.  Medium-bodied.  Fermented in stainless steel – that brings out the fruit.  Organic farming.  This drinks well on it’s own.  A fantastic Merlot from Rhone.

Malbec, Luigi Bosca, Reserva `02 Mendoza, Argentina
Intense ruby red, with aromas of berries, coffee, spices, pepper. Round, rich in alcohol, with soft, sweet tannins. A long-lasting wine, memorable, elegant, with great body.  12 months in French oak barrels, 100% Malbec.

Shiraz, Penfolds Bin 389 – Australia
Deep ruby color, youthful and full of good extract; attractive grapey, ripe fruit  aromas, young and slightly unevolved, very good concentration of fruit; medium bodied, perky on the palate with nice layers, fine structure; dry, good acidity, good balance; nifty,  young black fruit flavors, very good depth; medium finish, lively aftertaste. (Best Served 2004-2013)
